The Right Update Schedule Combines Cadence With Event Triggers
Every Denver injury matter develops on a different schedule, so one update interval cannot fit them all. A useful communication plan should promise a defined routine cadence, immediate notice of specified events, response-time expectations, and a named contact for each type of question. The plan should be written and agreed at the start rather than inferred from advertising.
Define Routine Updates by Information Value
Choose a recurring interval and state what the update will include: completed work, received evidence, outstanding requests, upcoming dates, current disputes, costs, decisions needed, and the next scheduled contact. Personal injury attorneys should explain when a quiet period reflects waiting on records or treatment rather than allowing the client to guess why no event occurred.
Identify the primary contact and backup, approved phone or email channels, secure document method, availability windows, accessibility or language needs, and expected response times. Separate legal questions, medical-record requests, billing issues, scheduling, and urgent deadlines so each reaches the person responsible for answering it.
List Milestones That Require an Event Update
Examples can include a coverage decision, important record arrival, expert conclusion, demand transmission, offer or counteroffer, filing, service, discovery deadline, deposition, mediation, motion ruling, trial setting, lien issue, or release proposal. The client should know which events prompt same-day contact and which will appear in the next routine report.
For every decision request, provide the document, deadline, alternatives, known consequences, unanswered questions, recommendation when appropriate, and confirmation of the client's instruction. A short message saying there is an offer is not a complete settlement update if gross amount, deductions, unresolved claims, release terms, and net estimate remain unknown.
Create a Shared Record of Questions and Decisions
Maintain a dated communication log with the issue, sender, recipient, requested action, promised follow-up, completion date, and attached records. The client can use a standing question list and send new medical, employment, address, insurance, or contact information promptly. Missed calls should not become lost decisions.
Before hiring, ask for the routine interval, milestone list, urgent channel, document portal, and escalation path. Then test the plan during the first reporting cycle. Reliable updates should make the case understandable and preserve informed client authority; frequency alone does not prove that a message contains the information needed for the next choice.
