Measure a Toledo Case by the Next Controlling Event

Litigation introduces service, pleadings, document exchange, depositions, examinations, experts, motions, settlement events, trial preparation, and judicial scheduling. After resolution, release review, lien work, approvals where applicable, payment, accounting, and distribution may remain.
Ask for a status card naming the last completed event, current dependency, controlling person, promised follow-up, next deadline, and client decision. That creates accountable movement without turning uncertain events into a calendar guarantee.
Measure Idle Time Separately
When no milestone moves, record why: waiting for a custodian, healing information, opposing response, expert work, court date, client decision, or unresolved coverage. Assign a follow-up date and escalation point. This distinguishes justified waiting from avoidable inactivity and gives the client a concrete status question at the next scheduled update.
